Hi, I'm Brandon Fiksel!

I'm a multidisciplinary designer, currently completing the Master of Human-Computer Interaction (MHCI) at Carnegie Mellon University, passionate about UX Design that infuses creativity into technology.

Since childhood I have been driven to create stories and express ideas, no matter the medium— poetry, prose, drawing, photography, video, music, and more. In parallel, I've been fervently exploring whatever technology I could get my hands on, especially computer-based programs which could enhance my creative pursuits in surprising ways.

I pursued storytelling with my undergraduate Writing degree at Johns Hopkins University and digital technology with my career as a Digital Producer in the medical marketing industry.
My first full-time job was at BGB Group, a medical communications agency in New York City whose tagline “creativity + science” resonated with my passions. After less than a year I was promoted from Associate Digital Producer to Digital Producer. I was responsible for the full development life-cycle, from conceptual brainstorming to client relations and onsite event support, including the minute details of execution and quality assurance testing, working closely with the UX designers. In 2018, I accepted a Senior Producer position at a company in the same industry, Medical Knowledge Group, where I took on broader project management responsibilities including detailed scoping, project planning, and client communication.

My professional experience has given me insights into the diverse internal disciplines that have a stake in user experience—digital strategists, account services, visual artists, copy editors, UX designers, coders, animators, QA testers. And through my studies and projects at CMU, I have learned invaluable practical research methods, both generative and evaluative, to ensure my designs will always put humans at the center.

To see a fuller picture of my experience and how I ended up in HCI, take a look at my resume.

And when I'm not designing... I like to make surreal photography in Photoshop, curate my cat's instagram page, produce and compose electronic music for my indie bedroom pop band, B.B. Park, and play as Wii Fit Trainer in Super Smash Bros Ultimate.
